Kroger Company Leads the Way for Corporate Sponsorship
When the City of Glenn Heights first applied for a grant to purchase and
build our City Park, we were able to obtain a corporate sponsor that has helped us in
the fund raising process. This sponsor has been helping for over four years and I want to publicly
say that we are very appreciative of their continued support and encourage all the residents and
friends of Glenn Heights to support them with all of our business.
Kroger Food Stores contributes 1% of every purchase you
make to the City of Glenn Heights Playground Fund if you carry an identifying card that the cashier
must scan just before your groceries are checked out. It costs you nothing and your City receives
the 1% which is dedicated for "Playground Equipment in the Community." You can pick up a card for
yourself (and anyone else you know that shops at a Kroger store) at Glenn Heights City Hall or at
my Air Conditioning Business Office located at 208 S. Hampton in DeSoto.
Approximately $9,000 has been raised through this fund, but with all the groceries purchased by
Glenn Heights residents, we could easily raise this much every couple of months. Kroger has three
stores within close proximity of Glenn Heights. One at Pleasant Run in DeSoto, another on Belt Line
in Cedar Hill, and the third on Ferris Avenue in Waxahachie. You can also send these cards to your
relatives and friends in other cities and we will still get the 1%.
Note: Since Kroger took the lead, several other stores have started doing similiar rebate programs.
Tom Thumb's answer to Kroger was the "Reward Card" and we quickly added them to the funding
when we first heard of their program. Unlike Kroger, you get your card directly from Tom Thumb but
you must give them our identity number which is "1007" and we will receive
one percent of your purchases there as well.
Brookshires has a receipt program that several churches
are using for fund raisers including Bear Creek Baptist Church in Glenn Heights. You have to drop
off your receipt to the church. Albertsons, which is another major chain has a program just like
Kroger but Shields Elementary in Glenn Heights, (which helped us greatly in distributing the Kroger
Cares Card) is using it as a fund raiser and we do not want to take away from their efforts.
If any of you have any pull with Wal-Mart, don't you think it is about time for them to give back to
the local communities as these other responsible businesses have done? How about it Wal-Mart!
