Changing Times, Changing Responsibilities.

Many of you that have visited my web site off and on over the past several years and again lately have noticed that I have slowed down my commentary on the local Glenn Heights news and activities.  This is partly due to the creation of another site I created for the Chamber of Commerce called www.InGlennHeights.com and partly due to the fact that I no longer feel the obligation or responsibility I once had for shaping, or answering for, the decisions and actions of the leadership of the City.  That phase in my life is complete.   After about eight years on the Planning and Zoning Commission, four years as Mayor, and three stints as President of the Chamber of Commerce, I think it is time to move on and let the young ones have their chance.  So, if you want to know my opinion, ask and I’ll share it.  Otherwise let us go on to other more interesting things.

I’ve been pretty busy this year volunteering with the Chamber of Commerce (and a few other things) along with trying to make a living in the air conditioning business.  This past year  I have served on the Board of Directors for the North Texas Air Conditioning Contractors Association.  Our web site is www.acca-ntx.org.  I also have served as a Board of Director for the Texas State Air Conditioning Contractors Association which can be visited at www.tacca.org.  These two organizations have taken part in a Federation process this past year to merge officially with all of the other local and state chapters throughout the United States under the umbrella of the national organization ACCA  (www.acca.org.)

Becky and I were able to go on a trip to Washington DC as part of our work in North Texas ACCA.  We had a blast.  I  plan on providing some pictures on this web site very soon that will show this trip to D.C. from Becky’s and my perspectives taken during our very first trip to Washington DC.  We were able to do some evening site seeing together and she had no fear of going out on her own during the day even though the Washington sniper was active at that time.   The pics will be posted only after I figure out how to use one of the gallery programs I have.  Everyone should make the trip to D.C. at least once so we plan on taking the kids next time.

I also have been pretty busy at my church here in Glenn Heights.  It is Bear Creek Baptist Church located on Hampton Road.  Our pastor retired at the end of 2001 and we just completed a search and the transition to a young Mississippi Pastor named Brian Hill.  He is an excellent preacher and is already challenging us to do more here in Glenn Heights as well as outside of our previously defined boundaries.  His wife Keli, and their kids, have quickly become family.  We invite everyone in the area that doesn’t have a church home to come and visit us at Bear Creek real soon.

Bear Creek is a very diverse group of people of all races, all economic levels, and all ages.  My church web site can be found at  www.BearCreekBaptist.org.

Last week, November 10th, Becky and I began teaching a Sunday School Class for young adult couples.  The typical age is from out of college to 35 but Becky and I are about to turn 40 and we don’t plan on asking for proof of age when new members enroll.  Sunday School starts at 9:30 AM each Sunday morning and classes are available for infants and children of all ages as well as couples and singles classes of all ages.   I plan on maintaining a Sunday School Class page that links from this front page at http://www.stephenpape.com/sundayschool.htm.

The most recent organization that I have become involved in is the creation of a Red Oak ISD Education Foundation.  This foundation is currently trying to meet a goal of $105,000 by the end of the year.  The intent is to award a large portion of this original amount this next year in the form of grants to teachers for projects that “greatly increase” the learning ability of students and cannot be funded by the traditional funding means.  More about the Red Oak ISD can be found at www.redoakisd.org.

I am using a new way of editing the web page that is much easier than what I have been using.  If it downloads as easy as it was to edit, I will probably begin updating the information on my page more often.  Thank you for visiting my site.  I hope to have information that is helpful and challenging.  Come back and visit often!

Sincerely,

Stephen Pape
